How far will the car have moved before you begin to slow down?

You are driving down the street in a car at 55 km/h. Suddenly a child runs into the street. If it takes you 0.75 s to react and apply the brakes, how far will the car have moved before you begin to slow down?

How do we stop a crow from attacking cars in the car park?

A crow is attacking the windscreen wipers of cars in our car parks. It is a new building and it obviously nests next door to the car park. It sits on the bonnet and pulls at the windscreen wipers until they come off? Any safe, easy and generally acceptable measures for stopping this character? We would like to avoid anything that is going to lead to its demise!
How do we stop a crow from attacking cars in the car park?
Use the old farming technique - no not a scarecrow! Hang a few dead crows about the car park and your nuisence bird will soon get the message.

Not sure of an ethical way of obtaining a few dead crows though, maybe that should be your next question.

Make a trojan crow.
this true expert advice

appartently the crows smell something in the rubber which means %26quot;food%26quot; to them

and you are advised to wrap socks around the wipers

ie over them and covering them

i heard it on the radio

worth a try?
I think that the crow is defending a nest. Does where this happens have a crows nest?
I'm partial to a 20 gauge Winchester pump
The crow can see its reflection in the windscreen and the paint work and thinks its another bird cover the windscreen and the wipers when you park there

  • What is the best car to learn how to drive in?

My dads teaching me in his 2001 montero and a 2004 tacoma me myself i think should learn in a car and not in big SUVs and a pickup.

And what car did you learn in?
What is the best car to learn how to drive in?
Learn in the car your dad is teaching you in. The bigger the car the easier it will be to drive a smaller one. Listen to your dad he is much wiser than you realize.
What is the best car to learn how to drive in?
Anything with a stick is good to learn in because you get a better understanding of it.

I wouldn't mind trying out (learning) these new hybrid things myself though.
I learned in a dodge. I think that your dad's vehicles are OK.
An old 1974 Cadillac.....now I can drive anything. That's the upside of learning in a huge car/truck, everything else you drive will be a breeze.

How to get my car seat installed tighter?

I have the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 convertible car seat and I feel like I have been wrangling with it for weeks to get it to fit properly.

The problem is my car is 16 years old, it's in great shape.. But it doesn't have those little anchor hook things. So I use the seat belt instead per the instructions. I am just not able to get the seat in tight enough. No matter what I do it moves about like a drunken sailor.

    Any tips?
How to get my car seat installed tighter?
Well your best bet is going to be taking it to your local Fire Station! They are always happy to adjust it snugly in there, and much times have special little tricks! Our car has the latch anchors, but we use the seatbelts most of the time since we take the car seats out alot! Best of Luck!

If not you can try putting one knee in the seat while you buckle it, or use the middle seat with just the lap belt (it tightens alot easier!)
How to get my car seat installed tighter?
drive it down to your local fire department.

they will get it installed properly for you

i used a locking clip for mine because i too drive an older vehicle. i got the seat belt set up and then unbuckled it and made it a little tighter, put the locking clip on and then sat in the seat myself to get it tight enough to clip into the seat belt holder thing... mine doesnt move around at all!
Sit in it yourself, and then have someone else tighten the seat belt. That's how I do mine, and I swear a cannon couldn't blow that thing out of my car! I use the latch in the back window, but even without that I can still get it tight enough just by sitting in it. That's how they do it at car seat safety checks. Or you can take it to the fire department, and let the men do it. I'm sure they can get it in tight enough!
We don't install our car seat with the LATCH system either, and it's in there pretty tight.

What happens if you crawl inside of the seat and kneel on it to push it down? I've found that if I'm facing the front of the car (the back of the child restraint), I can put one knee in the seat and push down with a lot of my weight. Then when I buckle it up with the seat belt and tighten it, I'm tightening it with all of that extra weight so it is really secure. When I get out, it will try to give back to where it wants to be, but the seat belt is shorter and secured tighter.

(I can't find a video online, but I could totally take one for you... but that would probably be overkill!.... I totally agree with the answer to sit in it yourself, but dang... my hips are definitely too wide!)
Try to sit in it or put as much weight in it as you can. Then have someone tighten it for you...Or call your local Police department...they can do it for you

How do I switch off my car from outside without key?

I've kept the car turned on and locked myself out. the engine is running and i dont have a spare. there is enough gas in the tank to idle the car for another ten hours. how do i turn it off immediately? i need to save my gas. Thanks in advance. my car is a nissan bluebird, 1992 model.
How do I switch off my car from outside without key?
Blocking the exhaust will cause the engine to stall. You can accomplish this by pushing the sole of a boot up against the tailpipe. If you can get a fairly good seal, the engine should stall out fairly quickly with no harm done... please be advised, though, that the exhaust gas carries a LOT of heat, so don't go trying this with your bare hands (or any shoes you really, really care about).

Note: Do not insert anything *into* the pipe -- it may very well shoot right back out and hit you, or stay put and leave you with a new problem once the car's off. In addition, merely blocking the outlet with bodily force creates a natural limit to the pressure that can build up...

Get a slim Jim and open the door or a coat hanger.

Try a pop the hood and disconnect the battery

    Call RAC VACC so on
um if u can get ur hood open u can disconnect some stuff.....like the coil wire(will shock u bad if u don't use a thick glove)....and then u will need to disconnect the battery so it doesn't drain down from the key being in the run position.........i would suggest getting in the car any way u can........

bailing wire from any large store in the area

slim jim available at any parts store....

key cut at dealer with vin number and proof of ownership ...which is probably in the car lol

    locksmith........

if u have full coverage u can break out the window then report it as vandalism.......would suggest the door window not the small quarter windows or rear glass since those cost more to fix.....
You will need to get a locksmith or someone with a jimmy stick to get your car open, unless the hood was up. If the hood is up, you can start by removing the fuse for the fuel system or injectors. I don't think you have access to the fuel pump wiring harness from under the car. On some models this is accessible from underneath and it disconnected it would kill power to the fuel pump, causing the engine to die. The only other problem, is now your ignition is still on draining your battery.

Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher
Pinch the fuel line with vise-grips to shut off the flow of fuel..

How to fix a car electronics after shorting the battery?

My pops replaced an alternator for my Nissan Altima ('2001 GXE) yesterday and forgot to disconnect my battery before starting the procedure. Now the car electronics are dead. The car runs when I turn the ignition and drives alright (though the engine block vibrates alot more than we started. . . probably because the tensioner is not set to the correct length), but the dashboard, horn etc etc do not work. Does this mean that I just need to replace my fuses? Or is there more damage done than before installing the alternator? I am going to go to the parts store later today. Please advise.
How to fix a car electronics after shorting the battery?
only way of telling is to check it out look at all your fuses you can try an reset everything by disconnecting -ground cable for a few minutes
How to fix a car electronics after shorting the battery?
If almost everything is dead but the car still runs , check for a fuse-able link.

I don't know if your car has on that looks like a conventional fuse or the wire type.

I'me pretty well 100% sure of this answer.

My car alarm automatically locks the doors when ignition is turned off and doors closed. How can I stop that?

I don't want the alarm to set automatically when I leave the vehicle. I want to set it when I know I have the keys in my hand. I have locked them in the car twice because I got out for a minute and the doors locked. One time the engine was still running.
My car alarm automatically locks the doors when ignition is turned off and doors closed. How can I stop that?
You could pull the fuse that locks the door. Problem is your alarm won't set with the remote anymore either. You can still lock it by hand though like in the old days.
My car alarm automatically locks the doors when ignition is turned off and doors closed. How can I stop that?
    Andrea relax :

You will have the answer in your Alarm manual( check your books ) you can set your alarm in many different futures. if you don have your manual call the alarm manufacture they will help you and guide you step by step If the alarm came with the car call or go to the dealer who sale the car you have, an they will help you @ no charge i am sure they want you us a costumer in the future.
Maybe your car alarm was jammed and need to service. Go to car mechanic to repair the alarm. For safety, you must bring the key where are you going if happen automatically locks the doors.

  • How to sell a car to someone that wants to make payments?

I am wanting to sell my car but I have a few issues. FIrst the person wants to make a large payment then make payments on the car. How do I handle the Title, Insurance, and Registration?
How to sell a car to someone that wants to make payments?
I strongly suggest you NOT sell a car to someone that wants to make payments. If you want to sell your car for, say, $3000.00, and the person gives you $2000.00, chances are the person won't pay the remaining $1000.00. They bought the car for less than what you asked for, so you're stuck with the bad end of the stick. Ask for the payment in full and IN CASH, so there's no doubt that you won't get the money.

In regards to the rest of the items mentioned make sure the person transfer the car under their name IMMEDIATLY. The title of the car usually has a %26quot;Release Of Liability%26quot; form. This means that even if the person doesn't transfer the car under their name immediatly you won't be liable in an accident the other driver has on your vehicle. Also make sure they get their own insurance, and show you proof of insurance.
How to sell a car to someone that wants to make payments?
Umm this really is not resolved there is a safe way for you to sell a car privately and not have to worry about being scammed. One write up a contract even a basic one staing the amount paid in lump sum as down payment and the terms for the rest in payments. Go with the buyer to dmv pay for a lien.

You would be better off not to do it and let them get a small loan at the bank. What can happen is, they could have trouble making payments, or fall behind, then you will pay hell to ever get your money, and to get a lawyer would cost a small fortune to get the rest of it. It happens not saying this particular person would ever do that, but it is very very risky to accept payments. A written contract still will require you to go to court if they ever fall short on payments it just is not worth the hassles.
The problem is , if you do this you need to KEEP OWNING THE CAR, until the payments are made to you in full. BUT If this person crashes the car and damages and hurts someone youre still responsible. Youre still responsible for the registration, insurance and all aspects of the car. You cant sign it over, cause the person will have bought it for one payment. a used car sale.. its not good to do it this way. Your small time. but if you do, you keep the insurance and name the stranger an additional driver on your policy. Im telling you if he causes $100,000 accident and you only have a $10,000 policy you can be sued for your share of the under insured amount. Its complex and not really recommended.

As soon as you sign your title over...they own that car and dont have to pay you another penny.

Thats why you need to keep the title in your OWN Name until its paid.
If he wants to make a large down payment.

Have him get a cashiers check in your name.

There are to many %26quot;bogus%26quot; checks going around.

He would be gone, by the time you found out the

    check has %26quot;bounced.%26quot;

Have him go to the bank, and finance the rest,

and get the rest of your money, in a %26quot;cashiers check.%26quot; ONLY.

When you have the final check,

sign the title over to him. %26lt;}:-})
This is not a good idea. There have been many horror stories about buyers that wreck or get tired of the car and stop making payments. Or lose their job, or get mad at the seller over some small problem, or simply cheat the seller.

The buyer should get a loan, and use the proceeds of the loan to pay you cash for your car. That makes it nice and clean for both you and the buyer.
you should write a contract and have it signed and notarized. personally, i would hold the title because what happens if they take off and stop making payments? they have the title and you're out of luck. they should obtain registration and insurance.

i think you could avoid the possibility of a disaster though but not selling it to someone who wants to make payments.
You'll need to have the title put in their name.

You can go to a notary for a small fee to get some %26quot;proof%26quot;.

The Regs. and Ins. is up to them, but plan to have a smooth transition so the car is NEVER in your name AND uninsured. Even for hours. In some states it goes down to the minute and you can be fined retroactively.

With all that said, I sold my car in similar fashion as you want to and it was easier than I expected.

Contact the bank you have the car with.

Phone calls in this case may work better than internet searches.
You aren't in the business of selling and financing used cars. You are leaving yourself open to possible theft of your vehicle, leaving you little or no recourse. Tell them you need the entire amount, up front, or no deal.
Tell them to arrange a loan through their bank and come back with a cashier's check.

I never ever do a private sale on payments. The hassle is too much, the liabilities are too much. No thanks.
They will handle it through their financer (bank). They will give you a cashier's check for the whole amount. Don't handle the payments directly through them, you will be setting yourself up for disaster.

How to get a car starter working after my car was in the shop all torn apart?

They unhooked the battery, and apparently that made my automatic car starter not work any longer. RATS! The place that installed it for me last year is no longer in business, so I'm on my own, I guess.....
How to get a car starter working after my car was in the shop all torn apart?
first off i would check and see if the hood pin switch is functioning , this is generally the case where the hood pin is not making contact with the hood in a closed position therefore causing a dead ground not allowing remote starter to work.

A good way of testing the hood pin switchis open hood , hold hood pin swith down and try and remote start. If vehicle starst then hood pin switch is out of adjustment.

Next option wold be ensure all fusses are good and all grounds aer attached securely.

if everything checks out then its a simple programming of the remotes is all you need. Its a simple procedure if you have the instructions. Otherwise you may need to research programming instructions for your unit.

    good luck

    installer

tell you what , insert your key in the ignition, dont start just insert key. With key in ign., hit the remote starter button . If car starts then its the security by pass thats the problem.
How to get a car starter working after my car was in the shop all torn apart?
unhooking the battery cable will only disable the starter..Once the cable is reconected you should be fine.. have the battery terminals and cable ends cleaned and re-installed..Try this turn your lights on at night and attempt to start the car if the lights dim down to nothing it is probably a battery..If nothing happens no flicker of the headlights nothing then you have a conection problem..P.S. don,t ever take your car back to someone who fixes your car and gives it back to you not running..Thats a bad sign..I could run a shop that way disconnect one wire going to the starter and sadly get away with it..Don,t take it back to the same mechanic take it to there competior with a list of complaints..
do you have the owners manual for the remote starter? That could help A LOT

How can I remove paintball residue from my car?

Some idiot sprayed what I think is a paintball at my car the other day. I went through the car wash and there's still all this sticky residue splattered over the side of my car. I don't want to ruin the paint on my car, but I need to get this stuff OFF!
How can I remove paintball residue from my car?
You're going to have to wash it by hand and scrub it. You might try using %26quot;Bug and Tar Remover%26quot; if it's really tough to get off. Once you have it clean, re-wax the car.
How can I remove paintball residue from my car?
    Try varsol.

What I also use to get paint off is Throttle body cleaner. Be very carefull with it.

Furniture stripper will also for sure get it off, but I would highly not recommend using it. It will strip or bubble your car paint if you leave it on for just a couple of seconds, maybe even less.
hmmmm it sounds like it was an oil based paintball that your car was hit with. All I can suggest is maybe varsol, or maybe nail polish remover. If it had been a water based paintball, it should come off when you got your care washed.
Have the car buffed out or use laquor thinner.

How does a car insurance company know how often I use my car?

They'll believe it until you report a crash in the middle of weekday rush hour; then they may check it out to see if you were truthful. They may also ask you for specific mileage at renewal time.
There is nothing for them to believe.. do you want to be driving into work? Because if you tell them you'll be getting the bus you won't be insured to drive to work.

How long does a car battery last?

I live in the cold northern part of the country and I need a good strong battery to start my car on really cold mornings. My car is five years old and has the original battery in it. I wondered if I should replace this battery, but I don't want to waste the money if it's not necessary.
How long does a car battery last?
depending on what type of vehicle you have is how long the battery is going to last you. with hondas and acuras they tend to last 2 to 3 years. IF your having problems starting the car then i would say to replace it. but if your not you can take it to your local dealer and have them complete and charging and starting system report of your car. that report test the battery alternator and starter. just to make sure that everything is working to specifications as well as can give you some insight on how much battery life you have left.
How long does a car battery last?
I have been debating changing my car battery for the past 3 years. It is a Durolast battery and is the orginal battery in my car. The battery is 9 years old and works perfect still. I could have changed my battery 4 years ago when it was 5 years old...

If it starts why replace it?
maybe 5 years. that's the point where I'd be thinking about it.

But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it's not working then you should change it, but try and insulate the car from the cold to keep it warm.
I've seen batteries die after one year, and I've seen others last more than 10 years. You may want to take your car to a parts store and have them test the battery for you - that's the only way you'll know for sure.
i was going to say about 5 years

yes i would replace i live in desert and extreme weather conditions are hard on batteries and tires and that expensive serpentine belt always keeps me guessing !
I replace mine every five years, even if it is still working. You're going to have to buy one anyway; why wait to buy it when you are stranded? When it might not be on sale and they might charge you a huge fee to come out at midnight on a holiday to put it in?
My car is 7 yrs old, original battery, but think I will have to get a new 1 soon, having said that my Sister-in law had her car 13 yrs, still had the original 1 but last year it died.
if its not bro-ck don't fix it.
Usually they should last about 3 years. If you have had yours for 5 years, I would consider replacing it before the weather gets cold. For some reason they seem to die when the weather turns really cold.
Mine lasted as long as the last one. But that one was flat, the new one is oblong. Hope i have helped.
a good rule of thumb is 5 years. When you purchase the battery, it is written right on it how long it is good for.
It is time to replace it. Don't take any chances with it. For the price of a battery it's not worth getting stranded. One thing I do not fool with is the battery and tires. I want to make sure it starts and also rolls. Your best bet. For around $60.
Car batteries are like any other product. You get what you pay for. You can spend thirty bucks and get a 36 month battery, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want a battery you can depend on. Where you live, you need to pay attention to the CCA (cold cranking amps), the higher the bettter. I suggest an Optima battery. It'll set you back about $140.00, but believe me, it's well worth the investment. I've had one Optima for eight years and it's still going strong.
old wise tell..... if its not broke dont fix it..... and 3 to 5 yrs is the normal..... if and when it does let you down then get one..... are easy to replace and can be done by anyone and always spend the money and buy a good brandname one they do out last the cheaper ones
You can have it %26quot;load tested%26quot; at the auto store, but why take a chance with an old battery. An emergency road service will cost the price of a new battery not to speak of the risks of breaking down somewhere and having an accident as a result. The average life of typical lead acid batteries is less than 5 years if you were to measure the additional load the battery is forcing the alternator to work against. My opinion is that you may shorten the life of your alternator by forcing it to charge up an old battery. Then you'll need a new battery as well as a new alternator!!

My partner crashed his car yesterday into a fence, no one lese involved. He is with Directline fully comp, and hes ringing up first thing this morining. Car is still running so we think it is just body damage, front bumper and lights gone, side and rear dented.

How long will it take to be repaired? I have a baby due in 4 weeks, will it be ready by then?
How long does a car insurance claim take?
If you keep on at them it can be sorted quickly but you will have to do a lot of the running around and phone calls yourself.
How long does a car insurance claim take?
You'll have found out by now, I expect, but for the information of others the insurers will tell you their local authorised garage to contact %26amp; arrange to take it in. The idea of an authorised garage is that they can deal direct with the company, usually on the phone, and you don't have to hawk it around to several places for quotes.

Once they've had a look at it they'll tell you. Shouldn't take long at all.

    Good luck.
Tell your friend to start getting estimates and forward them to the agency. This will help speed up the process. Make sure he keeps hounding them and puttin pressure on the claim. Remember they will do everything they can to take a long time and to avoid the claim. 1 months should be enough time but of course it all depends on the agency and the shop agreement.
Straight forward own damage claims with no third party (TP) involvement are usually nice and quick.

As you're with Direct Line, unless you paid the extra premium you won't get a courtesy car whilst yours is being repaired but depending on which local approved repairer they refer you to, and their workload, you should get the car back long before your baby is due.

    Good luck with the pregnancy!
It depends on the company, some have drive thru claims and will give you a check on the spot, others make you get estiments, then you take car to repair shop and thay will tell you how long it will be in the shop, from what you said 2 days in the shop should do it.
do you have use of a courtesy car on your policy.Handy if have, insurance rush your car as they dont like paying for your courtesy car for long.
    Hello

This very much depends on your currents circumstances, making this queary quite a conundrum. It depends on your age and no claims bonus but should not be more than 2 months.
Get your vehicle to a panel workshop of your insurance company immediately so that the repairer can submit an estimate of repairs to the insurance company. Then, the insurance company will appoint an adjuster to ascertain the extent of loss and finalise a report to the insurance company. From then on, you might need to chase the insurance company to approve repairs on your vehicle as soon as possible. Tell the officer in charge of your claim. They will understand that you need your vehicle urgently. After the approval, the workshop/repairer can start to repair your vehicle and depends on the extent of damages as well as other vehicles that they (the repairer) have to do as well (please be understanding in this respect), it should be repaired within your time frame. Just tell the repairer that you really need your vehicle urgently.

At the point in time your doctor releases you from treatment, you take all your medical bills that pertain to the accident, and add them up and submit a claim for the amount you are out, and hopefully the insurance will reimburse you. THEY don't find you medical treatment.

How do I make car rides easier for my infant?

She doesn't seem to like car rides. She cries half the time she is in the car. Any suggestions on how to make them easier for her. She is 6 wks old.
How do I make car rides easier for my infant?
First thing to do is feel the back rest of the carseat with your hand. They are made for infants, but sometimes aren't thought out too well about where the padding/seams are. If there are thick ridges, or drop-off of foam, a folded receiving blanket can help a lot. Ensure that the straps are on correctly, and aren't digging in or pinching her. Perhaps borrow another type of carseat from a friend to see if she is happier in it. Make sure that you check that her diaper is dry just before you put her in as a wet diaper will make the straps much more uncomfortable. You may also want to try breaking up trips to take her out and comfort her. It may just be that as she is rear facing, she is scared because she can't see you. Babies that age have no concept of time. If you are out of sight, to them you are gone forever which is quite frightening. If she is still crying a lot, talk to your pediatrician. Baby may be car-sick, or in backpain. If it's car-sickness, the doctor may be able to give you some suggestions of ways to alleviate it. If it is backpain, you may want to take her to a chiropractor that specializes in infants. I'd never even heard of this until several people I know were having the same problem, and the chiropractor did an adjustment to the babies' spines and relieved the pain.

This should give you somewhere to start. Unfortunately, there is also the chance that she just doesn't like being in the car, or being restrained. The only thing to do for that is to reduce any unneccessary car travel. Hope this helps, and good luck!
How do I make car rides easier for my infant?
she is really to young for any toys but try to play some soft lullybies for her on cd that might put her to sleep.. or if she is interested in rattles or things buy a hanging toy for her carseat.
Try feeding her before you leave and close to her naptime so that she will sleep most of the ride or you can find a toy that plays music or vibrates.
if its possible have either you or daddy sit in the back with her this may make her feel more comfortable, also music you listen to while she was in the womb will help her get more comfortable as well
All three of mine like music so I turn on the radio and most of the time the two youngest go to sleep.
my friends baby is the same way. you might just have to let her cry. she is to little to understand that she has to be in the car seat. she probably feels trap and cant move or even see you. she probably crying because she thinks you left her.
Okay I may not be a parent, b ut Ideal with kids evryday. Well you can make a game out of it.It is fun and gets they're imagination going.
My son was the same way at first even though I was given much advice that he would love car rides. We had the standard Evenflo car seat that detaches from the base and allows you to carry it around. Well, we finally upgraded (at a cost of 150 bucks!) to something a lot better when he got a little bit bigger and he now loves to take rides in the car. We have a nice, big and comfortably soft car seat and we finally figured that those Evenflo ones are just too restricting. Eventually, your child will hate to be buckled in but will be okay with it afterwards (my son is 10 1/2 months old now). Don't scrimp on a car seat, it's for your sanity!!
i would sing and sing and sing, it was the only thing that would calm my baby down. i had also bought a toy that clips onto the handle of his carseat (infant carrier) for when he was a little bit older. he likes playing with toys in the car now (he 7 1/2 months)
The one thing moms like to use is a mirror so that baby can see you and you can see baby. that may help.... i think she just dosn't understand all the fuss. her sences my be overloaded. use a window shade to block out activity out side of the car.
my daughter was the same way, she would scream her head off the whole car ride, the good thing is she grew out of it, as most babies do. but in the meantime you could play a lullaby CD or tape in the car, that helped my daughter. you could also try to get her a toy that attaches to her car seat, just something for her to look at and entertain her. dont worry though, she will grow out of it.

How do I find out my car insurance rates before I get a car?

I haven't bought a car yet because a lot depends on how much insurance will be. I'm a 27 single female living in Boston, I've had a license since 18 but never drove so it expired and I recently renewed it. I don't have anything on my record. I would be the only person on the insurance. I went online but they required the make and year of your car to calculate the rates.
How do I find out my car insurance rates before I get a car?
    Hello,

Yes, the rates you pay for car insurance do depend on a lot of factors:

    Age

    City, State

How many previous accidents you've had

    Year of vehicle

    Make of vehicle

The best thing you can do is actually call up a few of your local car insurance companies and get some ballpark figures. The important thing is, is to find one that you like and trust and who gives you a decent quote.

Your next step would be to go to a car dealership, take the number of the insurance companies who quoted you the best prices along and find a car that you like and can afford. After you take it for a test drive and get as much information as you can such as if it's being sold %26quot;as is%26quot; or comes with some sort of warranty etc...

Before any money changes hands or you sign any paperwork at the dealership, call the insurance company from the dealership. Give them the specifics of the car. They will then be able to give you a correct insurance quote.

If it's a reasonable quote for you, by the car. If not, find out what year/make of car from the insurer would make the payments lower and ask the salesperson if they have any of those on the lot.

Even when you do obtain insurance, don't be afraid to then further call around or check online for cheaper rates. You can always switch after you obtain the insurance.

I hope this helps you. I wish you good luck in getting a car and insurance.
How do I find out my car insurance rates before I get a car?
Do a quick comparison using your zip code to find out what rates would be in your area. Every state is different, but can easily vary from company to company... Do your research and make an informed decision.

How to change car registration number in Malaysia?

I just bought a new car and register it yesterday through my car agent. However, i really cant accept my car registration number, that's really the worst number for me. So, is it possible to change the car registration number? What i know now is i cannot change my number directly, have to buy a new motorbike or car then interchange the number. Are there any other way beside this? How long ot would take to process and how much the process fee? TQ a lot 4 ur help.
How to change car registration number in Malaysia?
Too late to change because JPJ had already registered your new car number. You should have forked out an additional Rm300 for the numbers that you preferred before registration process done.

If you are filthy rich then approached the car dealers to get it done for you for a sum of money Rmxxxx if you don't mind forking out. Car dealers are expert in this field to get auspicious numbers.

If you are willing to pay more, the process will be done quickly. Do you really want to waste your sweat money?????

My car was charged off by my finance company. It no longer runs and I need to get rid of it. How do I do this?

My car loan was charged off by Ford Credit but they actually told me they would not repossess because my car wasn't worth it to them. Now my car no longer runs and I need to junk it but the title still has a lien on it. What can I do to get rid of my car? I am not looking for a profit, just want to get rid of it.
My car was charged off by my finance company. It no longer runs and I need to get rid of it. How do I do this?
Ford still owns the car so you can't do anything with it until you satisfy (pay off) the lien. You can't sell it or junk it without the title. You can't get the title without paying off the lien.

All of these methods used by the lender do the same thing. You will never be off the hook for paying back what you owe. No matter if it's a repo or a lien, you still owe the bank, you always will. That never goes away.

So you live with a dead car in your yard. The lien will prevent you from getting another loan. It's just like a repo but it's cheaper to process for Ford and it freezes your credit so it prevents you from getting rid of the car or replacing it.

You need to pay off the lien or fix the dead car and keep driving it. Or you can go pay cash for a cheap car and avoid the mark the lien will put on your credit report.
My car was charged off by my finance company. It no longer runs and I need to get rid of it. How do I do this?
Pay off the lien first so that you can get a clear title. Then, sell it privately or junk it.

If you try to sell it with a lien on it, it won't happen.

*EDIT* - If you don't have the money, you can't satisfy the lien. You could %26quot;sell%26quot; the car to someone or a junkyard, but they cannot register the vehicle and therefore cannot take possession of it. I wouldn't try it.
there is away take it to a repair shop and dont go back or tell them to keep it .they can put a mech. lien on it and in thirty day it belongs to them if ford wants the car they will come after it or not *****

I got into an accident today with my new Honda Accord 2007. It was quite minor as I didn't do any damage to the other car; however, I braked too slow and i tapped his car enough for lots of scratches to get on the front of my car and also my hood was pushed up slightly so it didnt fit all the way down. Also my logo thing fell off. Can anyone give me a slight estimate on how much this would cost to repair?

How do you jump start a car if battery is totally not working?

Hi, what is the best way to jump start a car if the battery will not turn over at all. Its totally not working, not even power windows. We cant reach the car with only 1 set of cables....Is it okay to use 2 sets by hoolkng them to each other ??

We tried jumpimg it and it does not work, how long do you leave the cars running?? Thanks!!
How do you jump start a car if battery is totally not working?
You can use two sets of jumper cables but they need to be good (thick) cables not the cheap ones that cost $9 or $10.

Hook the red cable to the positive ( + )battery post of both batteries, next hook the black cable to the negative ( - ) post of both batteries. Make sure you have real good connections at both ends.

Start the car that is doing the jumping and slightly race the engine for a few minutes to give the dead battery a bit of a charge, then you can attempt to start the other vehicle.

Once the car with the dead battery is started, let it run for at least half an hour. My guess is that the battery in your car needs to be replaced as they usually only last about 3 years.
How do you jump start a car if battery is totally not working?
Use a portable starter or take the battery out and hook it to a recharger a few hours. If the battery is over 5 years old you may need to replace it. Or it could be the starter not the battery.
put it in 2nd gear, get it pushed and let clutch out if this fails seek advice from garage xx
    DONT hook 2 TOGETHER!!!

Thats just an accident waiting to happen!

I'd just get a new battery- sounds like the one you have is SHOT
you can use 2 sets of cables, have the car that is running rev up a little for a few minutes
Hello!!! Buy a new battery and check the starter.

    Smooches

    WonderWoman
You should leave it running for about 5-10 minutes but if your battery is dead, I suggest that you just invest in buying a new one instead of dealing with the aggravation.

It seems like your battery is shot and can't hold much anymore. Good luck.
you cannot till you replace the battery... too big a drain!
why don't you switch the battery from the other car.when the car runs you can switch the bad one back. it will not shut down unless you have a bad alternator.
depends on the type of car, bu t if your not sure don't try anything call a mechanic.
LOL! It'll take a few hoursbut u need a portable charger or take it to a auto part store. But Why not just buy a new one?
yes just hook jumper cable up to the dead battery to a working one and and start the dead one
I would not recommend hooking cables together. You may try getting someone to help you push the car to a more accessible position or buying a longer set of cables. After you hook the cables, turn on the car with the good battery and wait 1-2 minutes to give your battery time to charge. This should help but if not, you may have to replace the battery. If you cannot afford the $50-100 for a new battery, there are usually places where you can buy used batteries for like $20.00
yes, hook theme together, make sure the colors match, let it charge for a bit then try. if it's a standard, you can push it then pop the clutch(2nd gear) it may start.
they have longer cables... I don't know about using 2 sets together... Doesn't sound safe, but perhaps someone else can give more details on that part. If not, try a portable jumper pack. You should be able to set the cables up and let the %26quot;Jumper%26quot; car run for a bit and after a couple minutes, try your car... There may be a chance that your battery is completely dead and you need a new one. When you do figure out if its that or not, have it tested to see if your alternator is working. Good Luck!!
Pull the battery and put it on a charger overnight. If the battery is toast, you aren't going to be able to run the car very long even if you do jump start it.

Find out why the battery is dead. Have a auto parts store load test the battery, if it is good after charging it, then see if the charging system on the car is bad.

Don't hook two jumper cables together. I see sparks, shorting and exploding batteries in that future.
If the battery isn't working there are two possible problems i can think of. first put a fully charged batter in your car and see if it works(Borrow one from someone you know who is willing to let you do this) if it turns then you need a new battery. If it doesn't start then the problem is your alternator.in that case it is more expensive to fix(300.00 - 500.00 depending on where you go)
If it's totally dead, it won't turn over. You have to take it out and have it recharged. If your battery is dead, I would suggest checking your alternator as well. If the alternator is not working properly it will not send a charge to the battery.

    Goodluck :)

P.S. You can take both to Autozone and they will check them both free of charge.
It may be simpler to just put a good battery in the car to start it..Trying to get enough current thru two sets of cables may not work. Hook the positive cable to the battery cable connection, then hook the ground cable to the side of the engine or car frame.
Clean battery connections first, then attach + then - and let set with the other car running for about 15 minutes, then try it, with cables connected you should have at least some power unless you have dirty connectons so clean them first like I said.
I tried this myself and it didn't work. It may have been that the cables being connected weakened the power going to the dead battery, or it could have been the size of the vechicle. We were using a small 4-cylinder truck to start a large truck with a V8 engine. In any case, we ended up having to push the large truck out of the narrow driveway so we could reach it with a single set of cables. Once we did that, it worked. We did have to let the little truck run for 5-10 minutes though, to build up a little juice in the V8 truck. My guess is that coupling the cables just doesn't work.

One more thing. Make certain your connections are really sound. You may be hooking the cables to the wires on the battery, and those wires may not be clamped on tight enough, or they may have corrosion that is weakening what little juice they are getting. Pour water mixed with baking soda around the terminals and scrub them off. Then tighten the wires going to the battery, before you jump start.

Have you thought about simply replacing the battery? What is the use of getting the vehicle started if you just have to jumpstart it every where you go? Might as well take the battery out and go have it tested. If it can't be recharged, you'll have to replace it. At least your problem will be solved.

    Good luck!
Take the battery out of the vehicle! Replace it with a charged battery. The real problem may b the Alternator which turns the headlights yellow.
Put it in the 1st gear n push it all the way it will start bcoz ihave experianced it ATTENTION it will take ime
Yes you can use the 2 cables provided you're really careful not to let the end touch one another or the positive cables to anything metal on your car.

You can also if you felt safer doing this can bur a special jumper cable that basically you insert into your lighter socket and the lighter socket of another car.

This method takes longer because you loose amperage using the small diameter wire

You'd have faster results with the cables linked together. Or a battery jump pack... With the battery jump pack you do not need to have another car to jumpstart your car
Not a good idea with 2 sets of cables.

If you cannot get the cars close enough, then remove the battery then connect it to the cables near the other car.

Clean the connectors and (if older type battery) check the water levels before clamping the cables, be sure there is a good connection. Let the car run and charge for at least 15 to 30 mins to build a decent charge.

It takes a lot of charge to start the car, but once running, the car will charge the battery.

After that, have the battery check for dead cells. If this was the first time and it was because something was left on to drain it, it could be damaged.

If you are in a cold state, have the alternate belt check for tightness. If too loose, it will not recharge the battery properly.
If you try to make a %26quot;jumper%26quot; from two sets of cables you run a greater risk of arcing across something and shocking yourselves silly. Move the functioning car to a closer position and try again. Batteries won't charge if the polarity isn't correct, and in fact, it will drain the functioning battery. So make sure you have the polarities aligned properly before beginning. Also, check the battery of the %26quot;dead%26quot; car for two things: Corrosion around the battery terminals will interrupt the flow of power (so if it's present, lightly scrape it off AWAY from your body). Also, check whether or not the battery is the type that needs to have water added. If so, fill up the cell wells before attempting to charge it. If the %26quot;dead' battery is completely drained, it may take a little while to build up enough charge to fire the engine....while you wait, if it's working (that is, if it's building up charge), when your key is turned to ALT mode, some function to interior lights will return as the charge builds up. Once it's running, disconnect the cables carefully and leave the newly charged car running so that the alternator can continue to recharge the battery automatically. If it fails to do that you may have either a bad alternator or bad alternator belt. Good luck.
i answered yure other question well you put it in 2nd gear clutch in get ppl to push you...when get enough spped up let clutch out.hope i helped!
Did you have the red clamp on the red battery post and the black clamp on the black post or on the car chassie? Just replace the old battery with a new one or remove it and place it in a car that has it's motor already running (be careful with the battery cables while you do that, and watch out for the fan also) and let it recharge the battery. Yes you can use two cables - watch the color code when you do that and don't let the cables touch the bare ground as that will ground the system and not let the current thru to your battery. If your car or truck is a standard shift, you can push it (out of gear) until your up to about 20-30 MPH and the push in the clutch and put it in gear (2nd works) and release the clutch and hopefully it will start the motor. Make sure the car doing the pushing is clear first! Same goes if people are doing the pushing If the motor don't turn over then your problem is not the battery but the motor. Try checking out all the fusiable links in the wire harness going from your battery to your starter, you may have a blown fuse in one, you can use a meter to check it out - remove the cable from the battery first and at the starter. If the fuse is good, it will pass current from one end to the other.
Save yourself hours of frustration, if you need a ride fast call a friend or cab. Then when you can get someone to help you take the battery out and have nearest Autozone or battery store like Interstate batteries check the battery. If it is older than a year it could be bad and need replacing, if you have a warrenty take it to the place you got it. If you have AAA get them to come out, it should be a freebee part of your service. There is never a real quick fix plan on at least an hour to take care of this and don't skimp on the battery, you get what you pay for, if you buy cheap it will work like cheap and last like cheap. Preventative service is always the best, have your car checked out when they do the lube, many places like that will do it free, or small fee. Last but always important, if you don't know anything about cars make friends with someone that really does and feed them well.
Yes, you can use 2 sets of cables for extra reach but if you are having constant battery issues go get a new battery. Hooking up cables like this is a bit risky. You can damage the boosting car's alternator and blow up batteries if you don't really know what you are doing. I have seen seasoned mechanics blow up batteries. Just one Ooops is all it takes. Have your charging system load tested at Auto Zone. It's free, I think. And they used to remove and reinstall batteries. I don't know if that's free but it's easy and convenient. If you love boosting batteries get your self a portable booster. They are best to use for just your situation and you can carry it around in your trunk for emergency boosts. I boosted a woman's car at a gas station. She was very impressed.

As for your last question. I would never leave cables on a car any longer than it takes to start the disabled car. Too much voltage can be taken on in either direction. You may cause even more damage. Driving a car for about 30 minutes should charge a battery enough for a restart. But, get it load tested ASAP..... I think this car has battery and or charging issues.

How do I determine the mass of a car without turning the car on?

My physics lab requires me to find the mass of a van without turning it on. My group can move the car, but we cannot turn it on. We can use the following items:

    -3 Bathroom scales

    -1 Stopwatch

    -1 Measuring tape

I have to incorporate friction. To find the friction coefficient, we will push the car at a constant velocity with the bathroom scales between us and the car. The total force shown on the scales will be the amount of force needed to overcome friction resistance. I do not know what to do after that.
How do I determine the mass of a car without turning the car on?
You have to use the stop watch to find the amount of time it takes to accelerate the van a measured distance (using the measuring tape). If you know the starting velocity (0m/s), the distance traveled (measured), and the time it takes to travel the measured distance, you can calculate the acceleration of the van.

    x(t) = 1/2 a t^2

Using the scales you can measure the average force applied to accelerate the van.

Using F=ma , you can solve for the mass.
How do I determine the mass of a car without turning the car on?
Put two scales under the front wheels and record the weigh. Repeat for the rear wheels. Add them up. Use acceleration of gravity constant to convert to mass. Scales must work for 1/4 of the weight.

How can I tell if my car needs a new shock or if the shock tower needs to be rebuilt?

My '84 Toyota already had one rear shock tower rebuilt. My bf thinks the other one needs done but since the car passed inspection in August I tend to doubt that it is that bad. The car does have a clunking sound back there when I go over bumpy parts of the road but I'm not convinced it's the shock tower. Could the fact that it is so very cold here have anything to do with a car being clunky?
How can I tell if my car needs a new shock or if the shock tower needs to be rebuilt?
...Here goes: Check the height of car on suspect side compared to the repaired side. Is the tower intact? Free of rust through?

Is the shock or strut leaking oil? Are the rubber bushings (top or bottom) still there and intact? (not disintegrated). Is shock bent?

Is there intermittent rubbed off marks on the tire? A worn shock will make the tire bounce off the road and wear some %26quot;skipping%26quot; type of marks. Bounce on the car with you and someone then let go.--the car body should stop after 1 or 2 bounces. Good Luck
How can I tell if my car needs a new shock or if the shock tower needs to be rebuilt?
being cold is a posibility but I doubt it, I would have it checked out to be safe, maybe it only needs new shocks.
easy way to check shockers is to bounce the car on the suspect corner. It should go down with your weight and come up and then settle. If it keeps bouncing or doesnt come up it needs a new shocker on the corner.
You should replace shocks or struts in pairs, when one goes the other is never far behind and the cost is cheap compared to a tow or an accident. The clunking sound is the rear suspension beating the crap out of itself. It is better to 'know' than to 'think' your shock tower is alright.Have it checked out.
the easiest way to check shocks is to physically bounce the back of the car. if the car stops bouncing immediately, the shocks are o.k. sometimes, a clunking sound indicates worn components. (such as a worn stabilizer link) if you can't figure it out take it to a garage. noise indicates a problem, and small problems QUICKLY become big, and expensive, problems.
it could be a rusty caliper if possible jack youre car up safely where the noise is and remove the tire as if you were going to change it and use a flashlight to check for wear and tear. Check for cracks in youre spring exc. Note that some rust is expected. Also try moving the disc that you pulled the tire off of with youre bare hand to see if you can move it. if you cannot you might have an old rusty caliper the thing that holds youre brake pads and it is sticking and becoming loose when you hit a bump.
Passed inspection? I don't know where you live, but passing inspection for me only involved blinking my lights and paying the $5 for the sticker.

Like the other said, do the bounce test. I bet the shock is dead or tower has come loose. Can you see the tower to inspect the welds or the shock mounting hole?

How long does it take for car companies to produce hybrid cars?

How long will it take car companies (like the failing ones right now...) to develop their own hybrid cars? Especially hybrid trucks.

Also, how long does it take to create new hybrid technology?
How long does it take for car companies to produce hybrid cars?
GM and Chysler already have the hybrid drivetrain technology to build trucks. Back a few years ago, GM, Daimler-Chrysler (back when the two companies were still merged) and BMW all joined forces to develop the 2-Mode hybrid transmission, and it is used in production vehicles. It took 2 years to develop the 2-mode system.

GM put the 2-mode system in its Tahoe Hybrid, Yukon Hybrid and Escalade Hybrids. Chrysler put it in its Aspen Hybrid (which they stopped building two months ago because it wasn't selling well). Daimler/Mercedes Benz is going to put the 2-mode in an upcoming car, but hasn't made any announcements. And BMW will be putting the 2-mode system in its upcoming X6 ActiveHybrid SUV.

How much does it cost for car repair of hood?
take it by a couple body shops for estimates it's really hard to tell you what's it gonna take to fix something like that with out seeing it

How long does it take for car companies to produce hybrid cars?
the technology to do it is already available..they are however trying to make the technology better. As far as how long it takes to build I am not so sure as to the process similar fuel car would..but up to that p[oint is where the most time is spent

  • How long will a car battery last after the first jump start?

My car battery just start it showing signs of wearing, enough to not be able to start the car, the radio and ligths all turn on but the motor wont turn, how long will it last on just jump starts?
How long will a car battery last after the first jump start?
    just buy a new battery
How long will a car battery last after the first jump start?
If it can't start the car, it's unless right now.

If you are wondering why you still can drive the car, it because the alternator is providing the electrical power. But you need a battery to power the starter.
You dont want to rely on just jumpstarts because once your battery is totally dead your at risk of frying your alternator. I would just go out and buy a new battery.
Assuming the car continues running after you remove the jumper cables, the alternator is working. This is what actually powers the electrical system while the car is running. Either your battery is already beyond hope, or there is another issue you need to identify BEFORE dealing with the battery. There could be something draining the battery when the var is turned off. It is also possible your problem is as simple as loose battery cables.
you need a new battery now.
Don't expect it will keep a long time. What you should do is buying a new car battery .

Can you help me with my car cassette adaptor thingy?

I've got a cassette adaptor thing that I can put into my car stereo to plug my iPod/CD player in with, but in my car it only plays on the right hand speakers. I've tried adjusting the Balance, that didn't help. I've also tried it with a different cassette adaptor and a normal music casette, and both didn't give any answers. Could it be that my car stereo isn't compatible with the cassette adaptor or does anyone know how I can get it to work on both the left %26amp; right speakers?
Can you help me with my car cassette adaptor thingy?
get yourself an i-trip instead...much better
Can you help me with my car cassette adaptor thingy?
I woudlnt know where to start honey, perhaps take it to an audio centre and they might have a look at it for you. x
It could be the plug connection between your iPod/CD player, and the adapter. Is it pushed in all the way? Try fiddling with it, or cleaning it.
Try a tape cleaner first. after that, if youv'e just bought the adaptor, take it back as it may be faulty. if playing a normal cassette tape produces sound from all speaker then the adaptor is definately faulty. Compatibility doesn't come into it, a cassette adaptor should play in a cassette player, they're all the same.
Try the adaptor in another car, if it works then the problem is with your car stereo. If it doesn't, try the adaptor with someone else's Ipod in your car, if this works then the problem is with your IPod. If it doesn't then the adaptor is probably faulty and you'll need a new one.
you have an I pod but not a Cd player? ghetto rig. what your problem is your running it in a mono channel or its only comming from one side if your still going to be ghetto get the FM modulator and plug that into your I POD and tune your stereo to the specified fm channel forget the tape deck altogether or go and buy yourself a CD player cassette decks are so 80,s
take your crappy casette radio thingy-majigy out and burn it!
Make sure that the headphone jack is fully inserted into the ipod, it's an easy mistake to make.
Your right! some cassette adaptors have trouble reproducing %26quot;stereo%26quot; sound just through the tape head. (thats in your stereo)

The cassette has to line up exactly with the tape head, if not the sound will only be produced through %26quot;mono%26quot; sound (which is as you desrcribed as one speaker) if this is the case try another adaptor, if this does not work then you might have to ditch the stereo and buy one with ipod compatibility. alternatively buy a FM transmittor! which works off your radio signals and most are now wireless and start at about 拢30!

    Hope it helps

My car car is broken, key wont turn therefore the wheel wont turn. It is in a parking garage with a clearance of 6'8%26quot; and must make 2 turns to get out of the garage when pushing it. Anyone have any idea on how to tow it out in this condition?

Check out Go Jack http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/gj5000.ht鈥?/a> Many tow truck operators have them, some part stores rent them. If thats not an option, you will have to do the other.
How can I get out my car that is stuck in a parking garage and the wheel wont turn to push the car out?
    TOW TRUCK

A tow truck can put it on a dolly and move it out...
You maybe able to jack the front end off the ground with a large jack and move it carefully with some help. I hope the ground your on is concrete though.

Other then this you need to pull the key cylinder out and dis-able the locking mechanism linkage in the wheel.

You will need a book on the car form the parts store $10.
Harbour Frieght has a jack simular to the Go-jacks .

In the shop we use a floor jack with wheels , one person controls the jack while one or two push the car.

How high does my car need to be to drop the transmission out with a floor jack?

I have a 67 mustang and I want to switch out a C4 to an AOD transmission. I have 2 1/2 ton jack stands to support the car but I'm not sure how high the car needs to be in order to slide floor transmission jack to remove and install the transmission. Any ideas would be appericated.
How high does my car need to be to drop the transmission out with a floor jack?
About 2 feet would be good, like previous statement, If I was you I could get 2 more jack stands, and jack up front and back and put all 4 corners on stands, a whole lot easier and safer, had cars and machines drop on me by thinking jack was good enough, got lucky everytime too.

    Good luck swapping trannys
How high does my car need to be to drop the transmission out with a floor jack?
As high as safely possible. I know that aint much help but the higher the easier it will be..
About 2 ft. But make sure the back of the car is up against a tree or something, not just chocked up. I had one fall on me like that.
i don't think you can get it up that high why not disconect the tranny from the motor while its in the car and then pull the motor out and then you can take the tranny out though the engine bay. thats how i have done it in the past
yep atleast two feet will be easier if the whole car is even and not just the front end you can do it with two but id wouldnt it harder to but back in... i had a 67 man i miss that car

How to describe a car with a diffrent Year of motor?

Ok i have a 97 honda prelude. The thing is that i bought just the the car with nothing in there (no engine, tranny, interior) and they titel states thats its a 97. I put in everything from a 2001 honda prelude in it (tranny, engine, interior) so the body has like 115k miles but the engine has 49k

i am now planning on selling the car because i joined the military and leaving next month for training. how would i describe this in the newspaper ad. could i say thats its a 2001?
How to describe a car with a diffrent Year of motor?
I have a 1960 bus with a 1976 engine in it and that's just how I describe it. I would suggest you advertise the car as a 1997 Prelude with a 2001 engine, tranny, and interior.

P.S. Good luck in the military and thanks for volunteering to protect all of our freedom.
How to describe a car with a diffrent Year of motor?
The car is still a '97, based on the VIN. Just describe it like you did above.
you must list it as a 97 with 2001 upgrades
Igor To carefully answer your question many of our cars we drive have been or have had 2 or more engines replaced because we drive the heck out of our cars these days unless you want an old couple that barely drives their cars much then you have a safe bet here on their behalf but like the old saying says buyer beware.GOOD LICK
Say that it is a 97 with a 01 powertrain. (If I put a brand new engine in a car from the 70's , it does not make it brand new)
No. You still say that it's a 97 prelude. But in the description you can list out the major components that you put in and say that those are 01.

  • How can I start a rental car agency?

I've been looking a for a detailed plan how to start a rental car agency. The toughest thing I've seen on starting one is getting an insurance carrier to cover the cars. Now I've seen around here there are two rental car companies that rent vehicles, to body shop customers and use the customers insurance for the time the rental is in use, rather then their own. Is it possible for me to rent out vehicles without having to buy an expensive insurance policy?

I receive a monthly car allowance from my employer, how do I handle the taxes?

My employer gives me a monthly car allowance per month that is not taxed. It is enough to cover the car payment and insurance. I drive the vehicle 70% of the time for the company. How will this impact me and how handle this at tax time? Thanks.
I receive a monthly car allowance from my employer, how do I handle the taxes?
Your employer will combine the amount of the allowance paid to you under a non-accountable plan with your wages, salary, or other pay. Your employer will report the total in box 1 of your Form W-2.

If you want to claim the expenses, you must complete Form 2106 or 2106-EZ and itemize your deductions to deduct your expenses for travel, transportation, meals, or entertainment. Your meal and entertainment expenses will be subject to the 50% limit. Also, your total expenses will be subject to the 2%-of-adjusted-gross-income limit that applies to most miscellaneous itemized deductions.
I receive a monthly car allowance from my employer, how do I handle the taxes?
It should be counted as income.
The allowance is income. It is offset by relevant expenses; the easiest way to proceed is to keep a logbook of all use, personal or business, and add up the business use at the end of the year. The IRS publishes a deductible amount per mile, which is presently about forty cents.
You will need to keep track of at least the mileage and preferably the other costs as well (gas, oil, tires, coolant, insurance, interest, etc.) At the end of the year, the allowance should be reported to the IRS and claimed as income offset by either your expenses or the standard mileage rate.
These allowances are taxable income. I have one, too.
You should claim it as income. It should be added to your wages on your W-2 statement. You can deduct mileage or 70% of the actual expenses for the year. The mileage amount is $.48 for 2007 ( I think).

How green is scrapping an old car and buying a new one?

People who own cars that have high c02 emissions are going to be taxed more under the guise of a 'green tax to encourage green behaviour'.

The only logic here is that the government want people to scrap their old cars and buy new lower emission ones.

No idea if there are any figures for this, but recycling of cars is down to a pretty good fine art these days, with something like 80-95% of material reclaimed.

Of course, reclaiming the materials and building the new car also takes masses of energy, so it all depends on how much you use the car and how close you were to the tax brackets.

In the short term this effect of people scrapping 'good' cars for new cars is obviously harmful, but 10 years down the line it will have almost certainly been a net saving measure.
How green is scrapping an old car and buying a new one?
It is MUCH more harmful to the environment to make a new car than to run an old banger.
I don't know, fuel consumption must be a factor but do old cars burn more fuel than new cars?
This is where it all falls down . New car = loan =steel production = plastic production =energy consumption . The next phase of driving people off the road .
Older cars do produce more emissions than new ones unfortunatley. Older cars have more characteer however do pollute more. Scrapping an old car will remove high emission vehicles off the road, will also allow the metal/parts to be recycled (another green issue.) Also help the economy by purchasing a new car.
The old car is completely recycled and makes more steel. Hopefully the new car will save a lot of fuel.
If you get rid of your old car and get one that is more efficient, Guess what? Now someone else is driving your old car + you are driving a new one.
scraping your old car and making a new car can be beneficial or %26quot;GREEN%26quot; as you call it. the newer cars are more fuel effiecient and have lower emission then older cars. older cars have higher emission rates and are costly at the pumps

the only problem is money. the cost of a new low emission gas efficient car is crazy and not many people can afford it

so while getting a new car can help the enviorment not many people can afford it
I can't afford a new one so I hope it's not bad to buy an older one. I won't buy it that old.

Usually it's better not to buy new things.
